Methodology & Data Sources
Benchmark data last updated: 2026-03-01
1. What BizXPlan Calculates
BizXPlan is a financial planning tool. It calculates startup costs, monthly operating expenses, 12-month P&L projections, break-even timelines, and unit economics — all from your inputs, combined with our benchmark dataset. The numbers in your report come from a deterministic calculation engine, not from AI. AI is used only to write narrative sections (executive summary, marketing plan, SWOT).
2. Benchmark Data Sources
- Equipment costs — sourced from IndiaMart and JustDial listings for commercial kitchen equipment, bakery equipment, cold storage units, ecommerce packaging, and related categories. We use mid-range price points, not the cheapest or most expensive listings.
- Rent benchmarks — derived from NoBroker and commercial property data, segmented by city tier (Metro / Tier 2 / Tier 3). We use typical commercial rental rates for small-format spaces (200–600 sq ft for F&B; virtual/warehouse for ecom).
- Platform commissions — Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon.in, Flipkart, Meesho, and Blinkit commission rates are sourced from their published seller fee schedules and verified seller forum data. These change periodically.
- License & compliance fees — FSSAI, GST registration, Shop Act, and related fees are sourced from official government fee schedules.
- Salary benchmarks — sourced from average market rates for roles such as kitchen helpers, delivery staff, warehouse assistants, and account managers in Indian cities, based on city tier.
3. What "City Tier" Means
We segment India into three city tiers for cost adjustments:
- Metro (Tier 1) — Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune. Higher rent, higher salary benchmarks.
- Tier 2 — Jaipur, Lucknow, Surat, Nagpur, Indore, Coimbatore, and similar. Mid-range costs.
- Tier 3 — Smaller cities and towns. Lower rent and salary benchmarks.
These are approximations. Costs within a city can vary significantly by neighbourhood, property age, and current market conditions. Always verify with local quotes.
4. How Projections Are Built
Our 12-month projections use a ramp-up model. We do not assume you start at full capacity from Month 1. Instead, revenue is gradually ramped from an initial percentage to full scale over the first 3–6 months, depending on business type. This produces more realistic early-month cash flow figures.
Fixed costs (rent, salaries, utilities) are applied from Month 1. Variable costs scale with revenue. The result is a month-by-month P&L that reflects a realistic ramp-up, not an optimistic straight line.
5. Update Schedule (DATA_VERSION)
Our benchmark dataset is versioned. The current version was last updated on 2026-03-01. We review and update benchmarks quarterly, or when significant market changes occur (e.g. platform fee changes, major commodity price shifts).
Each report stores the data version used to generate it, so you can see whether your report was generated from the latest benchmarks.
6. Limitations — What BizXPlan Cannot Do
- We cannot predict actual market demand or customer acquisition in your specific area.
- We cannot account for your personal negotiating ability (e.g. getting a lower rent).
- We cannot replace a full feasibility study or CA-reviewed financial model for large investments.
- Our benchmarks lag real-time price changes — always get current quotes from local suppliers.
- Projections are indicative estimates, not guarantees. Actual business performance will differ.
7. When to Verify Independently
Before committing significant capital based on any projections (ours or anyone else's), we recommend:
- Getting 2–3 real quotes from local suppliers for equipment.
- Visiting the actual commercial space and confirming rent with the landlord.
- Speaking to existing operators in your city about realistic order volumes.
- Consulting a CA or financial advisor for large investments or loan applications.
